Implants

For many people, loose or missing teeth are an unfortunate reality. More than 50 million Americans are missing at least one of their own natural teeth due to tooth decay, advanced periodontal disease, genetics or trauma.  For these individuals, chewing, talking and even smiling can be difficult, painful and frustrating. You may be a good candidate for dental implants, a dental bridge or a tooth bridge to restore your smile if you have loose or missing teeth. Those open spaces from missing teeth can diminish even the most brilliant smile as well as cause other more serious problems. Dr. Polasky can work with you to identify the best solution for you to restore the beauty and function of your smile.

In order to replace the missing tooth and restore the mouth’s functionality, a dental implant may be needed. Dental implants are permanent fixtures of titanium posts anchored to the jawbone and topped with individual replacement teeth (implant restoration) or a bridge that screws or cements into the posts. The success rate for implants is remarkable. They can be a great alternative for replacing missing teeth, fixed bridges, partials or for holding dentures in place.

Dental bridges are designed to restore permanent missing teeth by bridging over the adjacent teeth with prosthetic or replacement teeth. Tooth bridges are comprised of two crowns, which go on the teeth on either side of the space. A natural-looking prosthetic tooth is inserted in between the crowns. These dental bridges are usually made from porcelain, gold alloys or a combination of materials.

Bridges are a dental technique that have been used successfully for many years. Today, bridges continue to be in widespread use because of their effectiveness, comfort and natural appearance. Dental implants are sometimes used to assist in holding a bridge in place and thereby can revive a beautiful smile, restore the integrity of the structure of the teeth and prevent teeth from shifting into other positions. When done correctly, a dental bridge can last for many years to provide a permanent solution.
